30. Contemporary Age



The Contemporary Age is the current specific period in the history of the Western world, started from the French Revolution in 1789. The Contemporary is generally marked by the development and consolidation of the capitalist system in the West and therefore the disputes of the major European powers for territory, raw materials and consumer markets.

Its beginning was marked by quite Enlightenment philosophical current, which boosted the importance of reason. There was a feeling that science would always discovering new solutions to human problems and human civilization progressed each year with the newly acquired knowledge.

Currently there is speculation as to when this will end and was about the current efficiency of the European model of the historical division.

  • 1889 - Proclamation of the Republic in Brazil.
  • 1914-1918 - First World War.
  • 1917 - Russian Revolution.
  • 1939-1945 - World War II.
  • 1945-1991 - Cold War between the United States and the Soviet Union.
  • 1989 - Occurs the Fall of the Berlin Wall on November 9.
  • 1990 - Gulf War.
  • 1991 - The Soviet Union is dissolved on December 26.
  • 2001 - Terrorist Attack on the World Trade Center in New York on September 11.
  • 2010 - Start of the Arab Spring.
